Brief Introduction to Z Scale Trains

Z scale trains are among the smallest model of this kind of toy available in the market these days. Its model railway scale has a track that measures 6.5 mm. There are many types of Z scale trains that you can find, including those that have Digital Command Control decoders. The trains can be activated using 0-8 VDC. As compared with N Scale, the Z scale is smaller. Its proportion is 1:220. It was in 1972 when Z scale trains were first shown at the Nuremberg Toy Fair by Märklin, the manufacturer from Germany. It was the genius of Helmut Killian that brought about this idea. He was the head design engineer at Märklin during that time. The last letter of the alphabet was used because it was believed to be the last model railway scale with such size that would be made available commercially. But since its introduction, there are some manufacturers who have tried to come up with smaller scales than the Z scale trains. But such products remain to target a niche market and still haven’t gained enormous popularity until this time. The locomotive of the Z scale by Märklin made history when it became part of the Guinness Book of Records. In 1978, the trains with six coaches ran for 1219 hours nonstop and stopped after recording a distance of 720 km. As of today, the popularity of Z Scale has increased. This is now being recognized not only in European nation as it was before, but also in Japan and North America.
